| Diary of a Farmers' Wife Jan ye 9- Carters wiffe cum this morn: the snow be mostly gone now, but the mud be verrie deep, it being up to our knees in parts. We to the washing of clothes and the baking of bread and such like for the week's eating. John in later to put on dry small clothes, he sitting in a mud puddle with his back seat and verrie wroth thereby, and later he to market with some old ewes which be no more use.
