Contemporary Lettering Design

Chichester Art Trail

  • Shepherds Sub Station Alandale Road Birdham, PO20 7QN United Kingdom

Ever wondered what a calligrapher gets up to all day?! Come and have a look at Kirsten working, have a go yourself, or pick up a piece of her work to have in your own home. Doors open at 10.30am until 5pm on 29th and 30th April and May 1st, 6th and 7th.

Kirsten Burke is one of the leading lettering artists working in the UK today. You have probably seen her vibrant creations adorning a wall at a museum like Shakespeare's Globe; a gallery or prestigious building; gracing a beautiful wedding invitation; or capturing the spirit of the moment on her best selling greeting cards.

Although trained in formal calligraphy, Kirsten's modern take on this craft lends an edgy, urban twist to her letter-forms. Her refreshingly contemporary style combines fine lettering with the creative energy of graffiti, unique, both in its diversity and its awareness of design and technique.

Following her individual success, Kirsten formed her own calligraphy company in London in 1996 and relocated to Birdham in 2013.

Kirsten has recently designed for other applications, collaborating with local authorities and architects on public art projects such as The Loughs Agency Exhibition Centre, a 6m high x 36 metre long mural covering the entire interior walls of the exhibition centre.

Alongside her glamorous London event work for clients such as Harrods; Selfridges; Tom Ford; Créme de la Mer and Jo Malone, she has recently been running intimate and informal Calligraphy workshops locally.
